FEAR NOT
by Dr. P.P. Job
I am happy to be serving My Lord and Master these many years.
Of course when my younger son, Michael, died and then my elder son, John, the loss was too much for me and my wife. I used to read Psalm 46. It helped me. “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in time of trouble.”
The little children – now 504 in number – consoled me. I want them to be well versed in the Bible and to have a secular degree. They can preach, not necessarily in the conventional way. They can do it also through song, dance etc.
These children come from 22 states of India and later on if those with influence, help the children who are qualified to get into government jobs think of the change there will be. Some could even get seats in Parliament. These children belong to God.
On the inspiration received from God, I started a small orphanage on a piece of land and building given by a relative. At that time Sulur was very backward. No water. No roads. I built a wall around the place. Today I call it the, ‘Wall of Limitation’ because at that time I had put the limits. God increased the number of children and the ministry land even further. I built a Chapel at the end of the property and a wall near the Chapel. I later called it the ‘Wall of Unbelief’ because I did not believe the ministry could expand. But it did so that today the chapel is in the centre of the Michael Job Campus. Today I have land even across the road and the wall around it is called the, ‘Wall Beyond’.
I do not look for appreciation from the orphans. Some who left from here were very ungrateful. It does not matter. I do it all for Jesus.
Moreover with so many children of different backgrounds all kinds of problems arise. To give a recent example – a small tribal girl from Orissa wandered off into the forest beyond our stadium. That night the Wardens, Security and some people from Orissa staying in our annex across the road searched for her. She could not be found. But when we reported the matter to the Police Station they immediately matched her with a little girl who had been brought to them and whom they had put into a home for the destitute near them. How we rejoiced to get the child back.
What a privilege to be a child of God. One result is that fear goes! A week before Michael’s death I was invited to give a talk on TV. The reporter asked me, “What is essential to be a child of God?” I answered, “A child of God should not fear anybody – except God.”
The following week my son was killed. Should I fear and stop preaching the Gospel? Should I sit at home and cry all day?
A little after this happened I was on my way to Calcutta to preach. Some newspapers mocked me, “He is going to Calcutta to preach about Jesus. Jesus could not save his own son!” Can you imagine how hurting this was! Happily the Communists who tried to disrupt the Meeting shouting: “Job is a fake!” were removed by the Police.
When my children were going to school John was bigger and in a higher class so he went to school in a normal school bus. But Michael was very small so his school had put netting on the windows to ensure that the small children could not put their hands out of the windows. In fact their bus looked like a prison but it was safe. John used to take a long time to get ready and one day he missed his bus. I told him he would have to walk to school. But he knew Michael’s bus would come later so he waited with Michael and persuaded the driver to take him in. Michael was thin and timid when small but my elder son, John, was a strong lad. Whenever John was near him Michael felt confident enough to stand up to others. That day in the bus the other children wondered how Michael who was normally quiet was acting bold. It was, of course, because John was sitting at the back of the bus. He was very dark and Michael was very fair. People would not recognize them to be brothers. But brothers they were and Michael had full confidence that his big brother could save him. Who do you have with you always? JESUS! Did he not say “Go! I am with you always…” Is there any need to fear? Psalm 46 always gives me courage. “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in time of trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea.”
Courage comes through faith in Jesus. The other side of coin is fear which comes from lack of faith.
The optimist believes: With God all things are possible. A Christian is an optimist. A pessimist finds a problem in every opportunity while an optimist finds an opportunity in every difficulty.
It hurts very much when Christian workers attack. My son, Michael, when very small saw an apple in somebody’s sitting room. He picked it up and put it in his mouth and took a bite. Then he spat it out and threw the apple down. The apple was not real. It was made of clay. There are original Christian workers and duplicate Christian workers. The original Christian workers are inspired by God. An original Christian worker is a compartment in the train of God. I am such a compartment. He has laid the rails so the entire train moves in the right direction by the power of the engine i.e. the power of the Holy Spirit. For example based on God’s Word to me, I will give you many daughters in place of your sons I moved in the direction of starting a small orphanage. From then on the train moved by the power of the Holy Spirit. You see the results when you come to the Michael Job Centre.
Some people think that my success is due to my preaching or my administrative ability. That is not so. I am only a donkey for Christ. It is God’s vision and I am only carrying it out. I want to tell you dear reader that God is with you. And the One who called you He is faithful.
FOURTH GRADUATION CEREMONY
OF MICHAEL JOB INSTITUTIONS
Speaking in the John Job Auditorium on the occasion of the Fourth Graduation Ceremony of the Michael Job Institutions which are located in the beautiful and spacious grounds of the Michael Job Centre, Chief Guest Mr. M.G. George Muthoot who is the Chairman of the Muthoot Group and Chairman of the Federation of Indian Chamber of Commerce & Industry said that Dr. Job embodies till today enthusiasm, power, passion and compassion. “We do not fully understand what he is doing and we do not know what he is going to do. His thinking is so big. It amazes me to see how this campus has grown within just one decade,” he said.
Mr. M.G. George Muthoot, addressed students, teachers, and delegates
both Indian and foreign in the John Job Auditorium Michael Job Centre, Sulur.
He urged more people to stand behind Dr. Job even practically helping with their gifts. He had a word of thanks not only for the guests, foreign and Indian delegates and friends but also for the teachers and staff on the campus.
Mr. Muthoot shared that the question ‘Why God Why?’ that Dr. Job had asked when he lost his younger son, Michael and later his older son, John and that he himself asked when he lost his son tragically is answered by God. For Dr. Job this amazing campus with the orphans and the large orphanage as well as the institutes on the Michael Job campus is the answer. He assured the audience who had come to witness the Graduation Ceremony that there was much more that Dr. Job had to do including establishment of a separate university.
Graduation Procession to John Job Auditorium. Drums played by ladies
from Kerala State provided inspiration for the procession.
He said that till today Dr. Job expresses gratitude for what he learned from his famous mentor, Dr. Richard Wurmbrand and his wife, Mrs. Sabina Wurmbrand. The Wurmbrands had suffered much during the Nazi regime because they had worked to protect Jews. Again Dr. Wurmbrand was imprisoned by the Communists for protecting Christians against Communism. Dr. Wurmbrand was imprisoned for 14 years and his wife for three years. Dr. Job had worked with Dr. Wurmbrand for Christians being persecuted through imprisonment and torture. Today the building housing 504 orphans is called SABINA WURMBRAND MEMORIAL HOSTEL FOR ORPHAN GIRLS after Mrs. Sabina Wurmbrand.
He said in conclusion that the girl child species needed to be lifted up especially in India and he could think of nobody doing it on the scale that Dr. Job was. To show his appreciation Mr. Muthoot presented a handsome monetary gift to Dr. Job for the Centre and wished Dr. P.P. Job and all at the Centre a great future.
The Chief Guest then graciously presented Certificates to the successful candidates – postgraduates/graduates in M.Sc., B.Sc, M.A., B.A. M.Ed. and B.Ed. The 12th Standard students, 10th Standard Students and even the UKG little ones were honoured with Certificates. An excellent meal was provided to 3500 persons at the end of the function.
PERSECUTION OF CHRISTIANS IN INDIA
KARNATAKA STATE: CHICHMAGALUR, Two women pastors, Kadur Devaki and Lalithama were conducting the regular Sunday Service at Chichmagalur when extremists entered and threatened.
Services were shut down and the victims – not the villains – were immediately imprisoned. They now face trial on the basis of false charges being framed against them.
ANDHRA PRADESH STATE: HUBLI: Edward Bellary prays for the sick. He went with three ladies to pray for a sick woman. After the prayer when he was at home 20 Bajrang Dal persons broke into his house and beat him up accusing him of converting people to JESUS. After their own unlawful actions they put their victim into prison!
MANDYA DISTRICT: Pastors Shanth Kumar and Nagesh Kumar had organized the ‘Vacation Bible Class’ for children and youth. At noon about 30 people from both the BJP and the Bajrang Dal broke into the Class and caught hold of the pastors and put them into prison on non-bailable charges framed against them. They are still facing trial on the basis of false charges made by the attackers.
