BLOSSOM BLOSSOMS
When Blossom, who has just completed her last year in school, came to Michael Job Centre from Bhutan she was already eighteen. She had a break in her school life. Her older brothers had left home to earn elsewhere. Her mother, a widow, was willing to place her daughter in the Michael Job Centre through the intervention of their pastor because persecution is severe in Bhutan when you become a Christian.
Children over twelve are not always ready to change, to obey new authorities so Dr. P. P. Job thinks twice before he takes on older ones. But –amazingly – the door was open for Blossom. Dr. P.P. Job, ‘father’ to the orphans at the Centre did not interview her. He first saw her praying and preaching. There was no need for an interview. He knew she was right for the Centre.
And he was right. Blossom had received much through her Pastor, Dawa Sherpa, her family and her church friends. Her relationship with JESUS was strong. Her spiritual gifts had been developed. This happened because of the hard life the family led and the persecution they faced. The Christians were prevented from completing school. Praying in large groups was frowned on. In fact even in the capital, THIMPHU, where she lived large gatherings were from time to time shut down. As a result Church Members had to often meet in very small groups in private homes. The youth made it a practice to go up into the mountains on early morning treks. When they were far away they would settle down and get into Worship and the Word. They really felt God’s Presence on the mountains. The Gifts of the Holy Spirit were manifested. After picnicking they would come down from the mountains as the Sun was going down.
At the Centre Blossom has not only been able to study and develop her own talents but she has been able to reach out to the other children - big and small, even college girls. She has talked with them as they opened up to her and helped them to get closer to JESUS.
She does miss her mother who is a woman of amazing faith, and has seen through her crying out to God – her two dead infant sons come back to life…..many years ago. The seed of faith and prayer was received by Blossom through her mother. Her father, a man of God, died early. Blossom misses her home and all the familiar childhood associations but she is sure this is God’s Plan for her to be here at the Centre.
Now she is waiting for God’s Plan for her, for the future to unfold regarding her studies but even more looks forward to ministry.
There was a certain time of loneliness in her life here. Then one day she saw a guitar in a dream. The very next day some girls asked her to keep an unused guitar in her room. She did that. They never returned for it. One day she plucked at the strings and found she was playing a tune. Some of the girls expressed surprise that she could play without being taught. After that Blossom gradually became a guitarist. And amazingly with the playing and singing of songs unto God her loneliness left.
Let us wish Blossom, through these columns, all the very best and pray that as she blossoms she will continue to spread the fragrance of JESUS on the Campus - and out in the world.
MYSTERIOUS WAYS OF GOD
by Dr. P.P. Job
Mr. Tom Cropper, owner of Nsite Company in Maryland U.S.A., had a vision in the month of August 2008 about Michael Job Orphanage. He did not know any details. Since he is a computer engineer, he was able to locate Coimbatore, a city in South India, and Director, Dr. P.P. Job’s place in New Delhi. He was also able to connect with a family in U.S.A. When he contacted them he came to know that Dr. P. P. Job would be at their home the next morning. He immediately drove ten hours and met Dr. Job at 9:30 am. During the conversation he came to know that Dr. Job would be preaching in a Korean Church in Washington D.C. the following Sunday. He and his family attended the service and dedicated their lives once more to the Lord. Since his name is Thomas, he wanted the see the Michael Job Centre in India for himself. The next month he flew to India. He said afterwards that his experience was like that of the Queen of the Sheba who went to see King Solomon and then said, “I did not believe these things until I came and saw with my own eyes. Indeed not even half was told me in wisdom and wealth you have far exceeded the report I heard.” 1 Kings 10:7-9
When Tom Cropper saw the 485 girls in the orphanage, he dedicated all his assets and his company to the girls. He is selling his company and will donate the proceeds to the Michael Job Orphanage.
Now he and his team are building an Electronic Library for the girls. With his money a four storied building of 40,000 sq.ft. is being built. This building will be the headquarters of Michael Job University. The third floor will be used for the Electronic Library. The fourth floor will have an I.T. Park for software export with provision for three hundred girls to work there. This building will be dedicated by Neighbour Tom Cropper on Friday 26th June – the tenth death anniversary of Michael Job.
Certain immature Americans were fooled by two Indian crooks who wanted to extort money from us. Tom Cropper rushed back to Maryland and shifted Dr Job’s Mission Inc. to Maryland and saved the Mission from the crooks.
Michael died on 26th June 1999. Michael was killed in a mysterious way. Innocent Michael, a third year medical student, gave his life because of his father’s preaching. My wife, Dr. Mary Job, and I did not know the mystery involved in his death.
This month is the tenth anniversary of his martyrdom. I never thought I could adopt 148 Kandhamal girls from Orissa when they lost their houses, schools, churches and even fields. Some even lost father or mother. In a few cases some lost both parents. This brings our present total to 485 orphan/persecuted girls.
God sent people from America, England, Netherlands to teach English to these children who did not know any language except their state language, Oriya. In fact some children did not know even the state language but could speak only a local dialect called Kui. Within four months these children are able to speak\ read\ write simple English.
When I go to Coimbatore and attend the morning service I used to cry with joy because 485 adopted daughters and 97 staff, stand up together at Michael Job Chapel and worship our Lord Jesus Christ. Visit drjobsmission.com and go to Live Programme at 5.45 every day morning.
When S. Susheela, one of our daughters, stood before the Governor of Tamilnadu to receive the Gold Medal for earning First Rank in the Masters Degree in Education. I remembered the Bible Verse, “Unless a grain of wheat falls into the ground and dies it will not bring forth fruit but if it dies it will bring forth much fruit.” John 12:24.
God gave me three Bible Verses the night Michael died. The second one is written on both sides of the Michael Job Chapel. It is from Philippians 1:12 “What has happened to me has happened for the furtherance of the gospel.” The third Bible Verse is from John 16:20 “You will grieve but your sorrow will be turned into joy”.
This year also marks the tenth death anniversary of the martyrdom of Graham Staines and his two small sons Philip and Timothy who were burned alive in their van. Father Aruldoss was also cruelly martyred ten years ago. Sister Maria, a Roman Catholic nun, ministering in Orissa was raped and martyred in the same year. All were martyred in Orissa. But note this: Ten years ago there were very few Christians and hardly any Christian workers in Orissa. Today if you go to Orissa you will find that almost every village has a church. In some areas the majority of the people are Christian. I do not know how the gospel spreads in Orissa. There is no human explanation, no reasoning but the Spirit of God has been working in human minds in a mysterious way.
So my brothers and sisters when you go through difficulties and sorrows remember God will turn your sorrow into joy in a mysterious way.
“Unless a grain of wheat falls into the ground and dies it remains alone, but if it dies it bears much fruit.”
TENTH ANNIVERSARY OF THE MARTYRDOM OF MICHAEL JOB
When Michael Job died as a Christian martyr in a contrived accident on 26thJune, 1999 his parents were inconsolable. Michael, their younger son, a third year medical student was so young, so full of life. And those who knew him said he spread joy wherever he went.
His room-mate, Gaurav, who was very close with him in his last years said he was, “an angel” to all the students in the hostel of the Himalayan Medical Institute where he was studying. The same young man, now a doctor, accepted JESUS CHRIST into his life soon after Michael’s death. He will soon be on the Leadership Team of the Michael Job Centre, and will be the official doctor at the Centre.
Gaurav is very close to JESUS. As recently as the 13thof April this year he wrote to Dr. Job, “Uncle I saw you in a dream yesterday. You were preaching and mighty anointing was falling on those who were present. The Presence of the Lord was so amazing. Thank you for the newsletter. How are you and Aunty?”
Ten years ago Dr. Job received a word from the Lord through a friend that he should start an orphanage, he pondered over the word and the Lord spoke, “I will give you many daughters in place of your own son.”
Dr. Gaurav
John, elder son of Dr. P.P. Job and Dr. (Mrs.) Job died an untimely, sudden death shortly after Michael. John had built the Chapel in memory of his brother, Michael. Now he had been taken.
The pain deepened. Nevertheless Dr. Job continued to work steadfastly for the orphaned girls. And a miracle of multiplication took place. Today there are 485 martyrs’ daughters/children of parents who are being persecuted and deprived children being cared for and educated at the Centre.
Michael Job’s death has not been in vain. Not only Dr. Job and his family and friends but all the girls at the Michael Job Centre revere that name for it was because of what happened to Michael that Dr. Job’s heart was pierced and enlarged to take in literally hundreds of little girls who would perhaps otherwise have been lost.
Fittingly inscribed on the Michael Job Memorial Chapel is the phrase: What happened to me has served to advance the Gospel.
WE HAVE GROWN
When Dr. P.P. Job lost his son, Michael Job, in a deliberate hit-and-run ‘accident’ in Dehra Dun on 26th June 1999. He and his wife, Dr. (Mrs.) Mary Job were totally broken. Michael was only 21, a third year medical student and an enthusiastic preacher and talented singer. It looked like this was the end of the world for the renowned preacher, evangelist and writer who had been working with the Richard Wurmbrand Mission for 32 years. But out of the ashes, out of the anguish, on 26th January 2000 something beautiful was born. With the encouragement of steadfast friends and God’s staying power a vision came forth. This movement from sorrow to joy is recorded in ‘TURN YOUR SORROW’ - the latest book written by Dr. P.P. Job.
The first batch of orphans numbering 31 was from places like Bhutan, Nepal and Manipur. These were children whose parents had been martyred for JESUS. Later on the orphanage took in children whose parents were being persecuted and who were in constant danger. Then little girls abandoned by their parents were given a home too.
The Michael Job Centre grew at an amazing pace. In 2003 the Michael Job Higher Secondary Matriculation School was started especially for the orphans. Very quickly parents from good families started seeking admission for their girls because they appreciated the high standards of the school.
The B.Ed. College was started in 2004 and on its heels in 2005 the Arts & Science College was established. In 2007 the M.Ed. Course began and in 2008 the Post Graduate Courses started at the Arts & Science College.
All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy and Jill a dull girl. So Dr. Job and his Team built up a stadium where the children exercise each morning after prayer in the beautiful chapel named after Michael.
Behind the Chapel is the John Job Auditorium cum Dining Hall named after John Job. It has a seating capacity of five thousand and is presently the largest auditorium in Coimbatore.
The large Sabina Wurmbrand Hostel for Girls is home now to 485 girls. Here small groups of girls numbering six or less share a large room with bath and toilet attached. The ages of the children range from two and a half to eighteen years. The older ones are taught to care for the younger ones. Different cultures mingle. The orphanage is in its 9th year and you can see how most of the older ones have matured and become service oriented.
