HOPE WITHOUT HOPE
— Dr. P. P. JOB
Brother Ajay Das who worked in our New Delhi Office for seven years and another seven years in Michael Job Centre, Coimbatore in South India is back in Michael Job Centre from hospital after a tragic car accident in the midnight on 15th of April, 2010.
The car he was travelling in with his family members hit behind a huge truck. He lost both his eyes, fractured his left leg and hip. His son Ankit Das, 5 years old, who had severe head injuries, is out of danger after a successful operation.
Mr. Ajay Das comes from Orissa State from a Hindu background. This is the state where hundreds of Christians are killed. I have adopted 186 girls from this state whose parents were persecuted and martyred.
Ajay belongs to a poor family. Father is no more. One of his two brothers is blind by birth and also his mother. His wife is not able to work.
When the accident took place I was flying from New York to Vancouver. When I landed at Vancouver airport the first news I got in Canada was that Ajay lost both his eyes. I could not control my grief. I did not cry even when I lost my two sons.
I immediately contacted the Meenakshi Hospital at Madurai, which is 500 kilometers away from Michael Job Centre, Coimbatore. Dr. Jai Singh, my friend, who rushed to the hospital, told me the ophthalmologists have never seen such an accident. His left eye is gone out completely and right eye is in pieces. They stitched and closed left eye-lid and pieces of right eye were stitched together but there is no hope for that eye also medically. Ajay cried out “Lord, why did you not take my life?” My co-workers who were standing near him had only continuous tears. His left leg and hip had steel bars and plates inserted and bandaged. We all ask a question “Why God Why?”
This same question was asked by several people when I lost my two sons. I have written two books. One is “Why God Why?”, translated to 13 languages, including German and Dutch. Another book is “Turn Your Sorrow”, translated to six languages including German and Dutch.
Michael’s 11th death anniversary is on 26th June, 2010. During these eleven years, more than one thousand girls studied in Michael Job School and Colleges and got life, hope and future. Now there are 501 orphan girls are getting 3 time meals, accommodation, the best education and medical care. When I wrote the book “Why God Why?”, ten years ago I gave some theological answers for the suffering and wrote in conclusion that we will know about the real answer when we will reach heaven. When I look back over the last ten years, I can sing the song “Count your blessings one by one” and then another song “How great thou art?”
AJAY das, one of our co-workers in Michael Job Orphanage,
lost both his eyes, by a car accident. Please pray for him and his family.
On 8th May, 2010 Ajay Das was discharged without one eye and another one eye with several stitches. Our children from 2 years old to 24 years visit his room, ten at a time and continue praying with tears for a great healing. They know him as uncle Ajay. Before I left to Delhi, when I visited him in his flat I saw and heard a small girl, Neethu, praying in tears with great hope for his vision. Ajay told me that Jesus is visiting him almost every day and he will get back his sight. Let us pray. I also believe that orphans’ prayers are powerful. We await God’s way. “We have hope without hope.”
“But if we hope for what we do not yet have, we wait for it patiently.” (Romans 8:25)

PERSECUTION IN PAKISTAN
Young Christian Woman Abducted: A 19-year-old Pakistani Christian woman, Sonia Mohan, was reportedly abducted on April 1 by a Muslim man and his friends in Nishtar Colony, Lahore. Sonia’s family fears the Muslim man, Ali Raza, will force her to convert to Islam and marry him. Sonia’s brother, Johnson Parvaiz, stated, “Ali Raza came to our home and told Sonia that I had asked for her, and she went out of the house with him. They had parked a vehicle outside and left, and afterwards we never heard from her.” After two days, Johnson was able to reach his sister on her cell phone but she told him not to call her, that she was very happy and that they should not try to find her. “It was obvious from her voice that she had been forced to say that,” Johnson said. Police have delayed registering a case on behalf of Sonia’s family because, in what appears to be an attempt to delay police action, Ali’s family has filed a complaint that he was abducted by the same accomplices who allegedly helped him kidnap Sonia.
Pray that Sonia will be released from her captors and returned to her family. Pray that she will look to Christ for courage and strength. Pray that authorities will act swiftly and justly in this case. Source: Compass Direct.
Pakistan Christian Workers “Tortured” over Crucifix: SIALKOT - Three Christian workers were detained and “tortured” by police and dismissed from their jobs in Pakistan’s Punjab province for wearing a crucifix and church visits on Sundays, according to statements from the men, their priest and family members Wednesday, May 12. Local police said the Christians were taken into custody because of suspected “alcohol” related offenses. Atif Masih, Kamran Masih and Naveed Gill, who worked at a local garments factory in the Paka Garah area of Sialkot city, were arrested May 4 on what they and relatives called “false” accusations of illegally selling alcoholic beverages. “We were arrested” by local police “and pressured to give a false statement that we sold alcohol,” the workers alleged.
They claimed the real reason for the three-day detention was their decision to each wear a crucifix — often used as a symbol of Christianity — and their church visits. “The factory owner said that nobody would be allowed to wear a cross and called all Christian workers to work on Sundays. He also threatened us with dire consequences after we asked for permission to visit church on Sunday,” added the workers, who joined the factory last year.
Factory owner Rana Ejaz said local police “advised” him to make the alcohol sale accusations “so that I can terminate” agreements with the Christians. Ejaz declined to answer if the Christian workers sold alcohol on his premises or whether he fired them because they were each wearing a cross.
PERSECUTION IN INDIA
1,000 VIOLENT ATTACKS IN 500 DAYS
Karnataka: Minority Christians in India’s southern state of Karnataka are under an unprecedented wave of persecution, having faced more than 1,000 attacks in 500 days, according to an independent investigation by a former senior judge in the Karnataka High Court. The spate began on September 14, 2008, when at least 12 churches were attacked in one day in the city of Mangalore, said Justice Michael Saldanha, who formerly served in the Karnataka High Court. “On January 26, 2010 – we celebrated India’s Republic Day – Karnataka’s 1000th attack took place in Mysore city,” Saldanha point out.
CHRISTIANS MARCH FOR JUSTICE Bhopal, April 20: In response to the growing violence and an increasing sense of insecurity, Christians in Bhopal held a protest march and demanded for protection from the ruling BJP government. Archbishop Dr. Leo Cornelio of Bhopal, who led the march, criticized the BJP government for sidelining Christians and making religious minorities victims of a “sustained malicious campaign”. “We have been pushed to a corner with the state government doing virtually nothing to protect our constitutional rights for a free and peaceful life,” the archbishop was quoted by UCA News.
Pastor Arrested in Uttrakhand Uttrakhand police arrested Pastor Jaswant Singh after Hindu extremists allegedly from the Hindu Jagrang Manch filed a complaint against him of forceful conversion on April 25 in Rooria, Haridwar. The extremists disrupted the prayer meeting of a house church conducted by him, verbally abused the Christians of their faith and accused the Pastor of forcibly converting people. Prior to the attack, the extremists submitted police complaint and then marched towards the house church. Police arrived on the scene and took Pastor Singh to the police station and arrested him. He was then sent to Roorkie District jail on the same day.
